To install the RasterOps Accelerator software, copy the file named "Accelerator" into your System Folder and reboot your machine. The RasterOps Accelerator Software is a CDEV which you access by running the Control Panel desk accessory.
WHICH VIDEO BOARDS ARE ACCELERATED?
The RasterOps Accelerator and the Accelerator cdev software speed up QuickDraw operations by using a technique called bus locking and by taking advantage of video boards which support slave block mode in all bit depths (1, 2, 4, etc. bits per pixel). The most dramatic speed improvement is realized in 24-bit mode (true color) on boards which support block mode.
The following video boards support slave block mode and fully benefit from acceleration:
Axxyss Serpico 8/24
E-Machines ColorPage T16/XL
Izumiya 24iz
Izumiya 24Xiz
LeafNet Interface
MacTel Vision 24Pro
Radius Direct Color/8
Radius Direct Color/24
Radius Direct Color/GX
RasterOps 8L
RasterOps 8S
RasterOps 24L
RasterOps 24S
RasterOps 24Sx
RasterOps 24STV
RasterOps 24XLi
RasterOps 24XLTV
RasterOps MediaTime
If your RasterOps Accelerator board has RAM (either 4MB or 16MB) and your application uses GWorld calls to support offscreen pixmaps, you will see significant speed improvement using the boards above when drawing images in 24-bit color.
Boards which do not support block mode can also be partially accelerated by using bus locking. The speed improvement is modest (approximately 25-50%), depending on the operation. The following video boards, which do not support slave block mode, can be accelerated when bus locking is turned on:
Apple Macintosh 4•8 Card
Apple Macinthos 8•24 Card
Apple Macintosh 8•24 GC Card (without Apple's acceleration software)
RasterOps ColorBoard 208
RasterOps ColorBoard 228
RasterOps ColorBoard 232
RasterOps ColorBoard 264
RasterOps ColorBoard 364
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The RasterOps Accelerator runs on any Macintosh II family computer with System 6.0.5 or later and 32-bit QuickDraw.
